Background on employment for people with disabilities in the job market

In the United States, people with disabilities face many challenges, the principal of which are barriers to education, employment, and social participation. One of the most significant challenges that people with disabilities face is finding and maintaining employment. According to the US Department of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities was 7.5% in January 2023, almost twice the rate of those without disabilities (3.8%). Career Support LLC seeks to assist many people living with disabilities in their effort to participate in the job market.

Our Services

Vocational support programs are vital in the search for and maintenance of employment among people with disabilities. Career Support LLC will offer programs that are designed to offer a wide range of services, including job coaching, supported employment, skills training (hard and soft skills), job placement, resume development, mock interviews, job preparation, supported self-employment, and ongoing support. The goal of these programs is to help people with disabilities achieve their vocational goals, which can include finding a job, maintaining a job, or advancing in their careers.

Our 4 core areas of service are

Our goal of vocational support

Our goal of vocational support is to help people living with disabilities find employment or supported employment, which is a significant leap in the journey to self-reliance. In other words, the ability of people with disabilities to find and maintain employment makes them less reliant on government benefits and more self-sufficient. This can help to reduce poverty and improve the overall well-being of people with disabilities.

For sustained positive impact, our support programs ensure that beneficiaries enter jobs that blend their desire to excel in the new career with their talents and goals. We help beneficiaries get a step ahead to landing such opportunities by creating resumes that stand out, identifying opportunities that fit their skills, preparing them for critical interviews, and offering support and encouragement along the road.

Similarly, our vocational support programs are resourceful in educating beneficiaries on various matters that can positively impact their lives. These programs offer on-site job coaching that can help beneficiaries/employees learn and excel at their new job tasks, communicate with employers, and build relationships with others. By partnering with leaders, financial institutions, government institutions, school districts, business professionals, universities, law firms, hospitals, telecommunications companies, technology firms, and many non-profit organizations, our programs ensure we offer their beneficiaries a diverse pool of resources they can learn a lot from.

our vocational support programs

Another benefit of our vocational support programs is that they can help our clients achieve greater social integration. Employment provides a sense of purpose and belonging and can help people with disabilities feel like they are a part of their community. In addition, employment can provide opportunities for social interaction and relationship-building, which can be beneficial for people with disabilities who may face social isolation.

In addition to the benefit of employment and education, our vocational support programs can also facilitate social integration among persons with disabilities. By entering the job market, persons with disabilities gain a sense of purpose and belonging, which can make them feel like they are a part of their community. Furthermore, employment can provide possibilities for social engagement and relationship-building, which can benefit people with disabilities who may be socially isolated.

We also partner with employers to facilitate the hiring of qualified candidates. Already, employers that enter this partnership are entitled to various benefits. A Forbes article identifies seven such benefits. First, persons with disability bring fresh perspectives and problem-solving skills to the office, which can lead to creative solutions and higher productivity. Second, firms that recruit people with disabilities have access to a vast and diversified talent pool, increasing the size of their potential workforce. Finally, this group of personnel is frequently highly motivated and loyal, which leads to lower turnover and increased job satisfaction. Fourth, hiring people with disabilities can help a company’s brand and appeal to socially conscious customers. Sixth, businesses that hire people with disabilities can often take advantage of tax breaks and other financial incentives. Sixth, meeting the needs of employees with disabilities can help to create a more inclusive and supportive workplace culture for all employees. Finally, providing equitable chances is a matter of social responsibility and ethical leadership.

Who Career Support LLC works with

Our vocational support programs also cover a wide range of disabilities and can work with individuals with varied disabilities: intellectual, developmental, physical disabilities, and mental health.

Notwithstanding the benefits of vocational support programs, people with disabilities confront numerous barriers in the workplace. One of the most significant concerns is a lack of workplace accessibility. Many workplaces are not intended to accommodate people with impairments, which can make it difficult for them to execute their job tasks. Furthermore, people with disabilities may encounter prejudice and stigma from employers and coworkers, making it difficult for them to find and keep jobs. To address these difficulties, we partner with employers to promote the implementation of policy initiatives that have been suggested or adopted at the federal and state level. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), for example, mandates firms to make reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. Many states have implemented policies that provide financial incentives to employers who hire people with disabilities.

Conclusively, vocational support programs are an essential resource for people with disabilities seeking to enter or re-enter the workforce. These programs provide a wide range of services to help people with disabilities find and maintain employment, which can lead to greater self-sufficiency, social integration, and overall well-being. However, there are still many challenges that people with disabilities face in the workforce, and more needs to be done to ensure that workplaces are accessible and inclusive for all.
